The USGA visits Magnolia Point Golf & Country Club
Representatives from the United States Golf Association (USGA) Course Consulting Service (CCS) visited Magnolia Point Golf & Country Club on February 24, 2016. Magnolia Point commissioned their services to tour and evaluate our facility.
The purpose of the CCS from the USGA Website:
“The USGA Course Consulting Service (CCS) permits individual facilities to reap the benefits of on-site visits by highly skilled USGA agronomists located in Green Section offices throughout the country. Their experience helps golf course staff and officials produce the best possible golf turf for the dollars that can be spent. The CCS’s purpose is not to tell anyone how to run a golf course or what products to buy. Rather, it seeks to bring a wealth of information and an impartial yet concerned perspective regarding turfgrass growth requirements, how these requirements might best be managed for golf, and ideas that other golf courses have found to be beneficial.”
The putting surfaces at Magnolia Point are 27 years old, with each individual putting green possessing its own unique soil composition and set of challenges. As an example, some greens retain more moisture, while some receive more sunlight than others. During their visit, the CCS took soil samples and recorded other information. We look forward to receiving their full report in the coming weeks.
